Dear PCM Team,

We are thrilled to report your recent visit in Bungoma Kenya Tabitha House 2 has created an impact on the lives of children with parents in prison and those on the streets.

Your visit was marked with spiritual nourishment through prayers of salvation, Bible study, Baptism, feeding, and distribution of clothes and shoes. May God bless you richly. 

We bring to your attention that following prayers of salvation to street children 27 gave their lives to Jesus Christ and 3 three boys have fully joined our church weekly Bible study program among other responsibilities around the compound. There are moments in life that touch your heart so deeply, you can never look at the world the same way again.

This is the story of Sylvenus— a young man found on the streets of Bungoma during PCM on January 25th barefoot, hungry, silent with confusion, but speaking English able to communicate with Brent Bishop. Sylvenus was rescued from the street by an old Samaritan widow who assisted him join school but eventually the widow died before completing high school. The school allowed him to finish but retained all his certificates even after passing exams. 

Sylvenus is still on the street, he is a bright boy with dreams hidden beneath years of hardship. Recently Brent Bishop spotted him and noticed his ability and now we have rescued him from the streets and brought him to the church compound for rehabilitation and we believe this is where his hope will begin to shine again. We have seen this child’s potential.

With joy, we are planning to enroll Sylvenus in a college to study as an Electrician and certificate in Theology because he’s much passionate about serving God.

For two terms, we need to pay Ksh 50,000 per term plus extra costs for meals and accommodation of around 30,000, because every child deserves a chance to dream. But when schools close, we don’t want Sylvenus to ran back to the streets that’s why we request your prayers to help us renovate wooden church houses that will be called their home especially those who are constantly coming to church every Sunday because the streets are not safe that why they are being killed almost every week.

Every time we look into Sylvenus’ eyes, we see both hope and pain. He is a child who needs more than rescue — he needs consistent care, therapy, guidance, structure, and a safe environment for him to succeed.

We are extremely excited to report that Prison Christian Ministries Feeding and Mentorship of the Street Children in Western Kenya has been successful. Three years ago, Prison Christian Ministries launched its first major initiative, the “Feeding and Mentorship Program for Street Children in Western Kenya. For many of these children, this was the first time in weeks that they had enjoyed a proper meal. Our feeding program is complemented by an interactive mentorship session, led by Volunteers.

The mentorship session focuses on imparting life skills, including the importance of education, personal hygiene, and self-esteem. The street kids are always encouraged to share their stories and aspirations, creating an environment of mutual respect and understanding. The success of this October event was evident in the smiles and gratitude expressed by the participants, reinforcing Prison Christian Ministries’ commitment to transforming the lives of the most vulnerable children on the streets of Bungoma and Kakamega.

It’s with great happiness to report that, as Prison Christian Ministries in Kenya, our feeding program on the Streets of Western Kenya is the major initiative that has experienced tremendous success. This impactful program has reached thousands of children in our Major towns, and every week is filled with spiritual nourishment, mentorship, and hope. Our weekly events always kick off with warm, delicious meals, and our team of volunteers ensures that each child receives not only food but also a sense of care and belonging.

The feeding program was complemented by an interactive mentorship session, led by our volunteer counselors

The mentorship session focused on imparting life skills, including the importance of education, personal hygiene, and self-esteem. The street kids were encouraged to share their stories and aspirations, creating an environment of mutual respect and understanding.

The day ended with a praise song, and the success of this event was evident in the smiles and gratitude expressed by the participants in the photos below.

Prayer requests:

-Pray that we get shaving Machines and shoes/sandals to maintain cleanliness and hygiene 

-Pray that we get Trollies to help them carry luggage as a source of employment, especially those who are 18 years old, so that we reintegrate them.

– Pray that we get first Aid drugs (medical supplies)

– Pray that we get small business start-up capital for sustainability to the youth on the Streets.

At Prison Christian Ministries, the street children we serve live in areas where walking is the main form of transportation. Their feet are at constant risk of injury on unpaved paths or streets covered in broken bottles and rocks.

Metrine, our volunteer, explains, “On the streets, you can hurt your leg, and it will stop you from coming to our feeding program.”

On the dirty streets of Bungoma and Kakamega, wounds on children’s bare feet can easily become infected. And street children’s medical care is hard to find, and harder to afford, infections can quickly become life-threatening to them.

We are excited to report that, prison Christian Ministries has been working to rescue and transform the lives of street children in Kakamega and Bungoma Kenya. Through regular feeding programs, we have noticed that most vulnerable children require medication for jogger eradication and shaving Machines to keep them clean because they can’t afford to go to a Barbershop for services. Recently we supplied shoes, clothing, and counseling services. We also work to reintegrate the children with their relatives and provide counseling to families if needed. 

Sunday Service

We are thrilled to report that for the past few Sundays, children from the streets of Bungoma have visited Reformed Church, our feeding center for fellowship, and testified what the Lord has done in their lives. Amen!

The boys who have been with us for years have started joining the choir and Bible study lessons. They are now great role models and mentors to the younger kids.  After the service, we also plan the games and fun activities within the church compound. One of our volunteers back in Canada was good enough to purchase 250 pairs of sandals that we gave to the children.

It’s with great happiness that we report that Cloth & Footwear Distribution is an Initiative by Prison Christian Ministries to reach children living on the streets and those with parents in prisons in the Western Region of Kenya.

This program has provided regular meals, essential clothing, and footwear to our street children, enhancing their dignity, comfort, and well-being. Proper clothing will protect street children from harsh weather conditions, while adequate footwear will prevent injuries and infections.

We are excited to introduce you to one of our volunteers Tracy Ationo, sharing the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ with the vulnerable children before handing them a plate of a meal.

“Benson” [not his real name] accepted Jesus as his personal Saviour and Sunday, June 9th 2024 Benson was our new visitor in the church… his testimony was amazing and everybody almost cried… He came in tattered clothes but now looked smart both inside and outside after church service (The Story of a Prodigal Son).

We still covet your prayers and support to take the boy back to school because it’s his prayer and desire to pursue the dream. We are in the process of establishing occupational training, and vocational rehabilitation to help orphans and vulnerable children.

This is all happening because of your help and the Love of Jesus. We could do so much more. Please join us and save a soul.

How do you feel when you meet an orphan or a needy child begging for help from strangers on the streets? Kindness and compassion fill your heart, I can imagine.

Too often, when parents are imprisoned, their children are left devastated, confused, and full of pain. The justice system is blind to their needs, so they run to the streets in major cities.

Thanks to our partners and prayer team for supporting this program. This April, through Prison Christian Ministries, we have also equipped our volunteers so they can feed the children, take the Gospel, help in addiction recovery, education, and teach simple life skills to street children to help create a hub of TRANSFORMATION. For the last 2 years on the streets, we have seen great results from this.
